Basic Information
Family Name: Suzuki
Other Names: Akina. Family members and close friends normally address her by "Aki" or "Kina." Usually, a "-chan" is tacked onto the end.
Gender: Female
Age: Eighteen
Year and Class: Third year; Class A
Occupation: On certain days, Akina works in a small, cozy café as the person at the cash register.
Appearance
Celebrity Claim: N/A. The images I'm using for her aren't of a certain celebrity, I think.
Hair: Her hair is an interesting shade of auburn that appears to be a mixture of brown and red. For the most part, her hair is rather wavy, but not excessively so. It reaches about half a foot or so below her shoulders.
Eyes: Her eyes are actually a dark shade of gray, but they appear black from afar.
Body: For the most part, Akina is extremely slender and lean, almost to the point of seeming fragile at times. She isn't particularly tall, either—rather, she has a petite build, and is consequently somewhat short (a mere 5'2") in comparison to her fellow classmates and friends.
Usual Clothing: Akina is what most would call feminine. She loves to don dresses and skirts, as well as other feminine garments. While she isn't particularly fond of pink or purple, her style of dress is still girly. Often times, her outfits are not extremely formal, but they still appear cutesy and sweet. She loves to wear black and white in particular, finding that the two match each other extremely well. Otherwise, she wears a variety of colors, such as various shades of blues, greens, and reds. Sometimes, however, she does wear pink or purple, but it isn't as common. However, her clothing is not limited to dresses and skirts—Akina has been seen wearing jeans, sweaters, and other articles of clothing.
Distinguishing Features: Some people have been known to identify her by her hair because of its somewhat unique coloration. Otherwise, she doesn't have any distinguishing features.
History
Mother: Suzuki Shizuko, age 44. A busy businesswoman. She took on the role of doing the moneymaking after her husband's untimely death, and went through a small phase of extreme depression after he was gone. However, she recovered from the incident. She has vowed to never lose another person dear to her again, and consequently has fought her way up through the ranks of a fairly prestigious company, hoping to give her children the best lives they can possibly have. While she isn't around at home often, when she is, she can be very loving and compassionate. Shizuko still retains traits from being a housewife, as she used to be one before her husband's death, but she normally divides the chores between herself and her two children to balance things out.
Father: Suzuki Touya, age 48, deceased. Before his untimely death, he lived a cheerful life with his family, working in the field of business as the only source of income for the household. He was known as being a somewhat klutzy, albeit charming man who was a little too fond of his family (to the point of ranting about how lovable his children and wife were to coworkers). However, he perished in an unfortunate car accident, where a speeding car, driven by an obviously drunk person, slammed into his car while he was making a turn. The ensuing explosion engulfed them both and caused the drunken man to die upon impact, but, unluckily, Touya survived through the explosion, although he suffered from severe burns. He did, however, die in the hospital, right before the eyes of his family members.
Siblings: Suzuki Akuji, age 10. Unlike most annoying brothers, he is a rather strange, but considerate boy who has a tendency to be extremely quiet. He's a little protective of other members of his family -- the easiest way to get him riled, though he normally is not easily angered, is to make an insult about his family. Akuji is oddly fascinated by the extraordinary, and it's not uncommon for him to be seen holding a deck of tarot cards and making random predictions. He also has a strange fascination with chess, and frequently beats his older sister at it. Although considerate, he's been known to engage in pointless, childish arguments with people before.
Other Significant Relatives: N/A. She does have other relatives, but she isn't particularly close with them, so they won't play very significant roles here.
Short Biography: Akina was born to two loving parents in Shibuya, one of the special wards of Tokyo. During her childhood, her family life was fairly peaceful; nothing particularly bad occurred, but things were relatively boring. No significant events happened during this time. When she finally reached the age of eight, her parents informed her that another child was coming along, and that she'd have a younger sibling soon. When her younger brother was finally born, her mother had a field day trying to get her to refrain from playing with the newborn baby.
Several years later, when she reached the age of fourteen and her brother reached the age of six, Akina was called out of the classroom during a test at school. She was informed that her father had been in a serious accident, much to her shock and confusion. Shortly afterward, she was taken to the hospital, where she sat in a waiting room, huddled close to her mother and brother, the former of whom was extremely numb and pale and the latter of whom was merely confused, not quite understanding what was happening. After some time, a grave doctor told them that they could see Touya, but her tone of voice spoke volumes; they knew that the man would die. They moved into the room in which he was held and sat near him, clutching his hands and praying that, against all odds, he would live.
He didn't. He died several hours later.
Akina's mother, Shizuko, was nearly driven mad with grief. A week later saw that the woman was beginning to lock herself up in her room to grieve. It was during this time that Akina took control over looking after her brother's welfare, figuring it would be best to let her mother sort herself out with few distractions. Akina and Akuji grew incredibly close during this time; at home, they spent most of their time together, looking out for one another. At school, the two had always been fairly popular, but after this incident, they grew more withdrawn, and slowly faded into the background. Wallflowers. That was the term. They became like wallflowers -- present and in the background, but not particularly noticeable. They were content with this status, as it left them alone to grieve in peace, without the constant badgering of classmates.
Overtime, Shizuko began to become more like herself and lock herself into her room less. Eventually, she came to her senses and apologized to Akina and Akuji, taking on a job when she realized just how much the family had fallen into temporary disarray. Back when she was younger, the woman had passed college with flying colors and had attended a prestigious school; understandably, she was able to get herself a good job in the business field, and she went from housewife to working wife. To accommodate her new job and get away from the memories of Touya's death, the family moved to another city, namely Nagai, where Shizuko fought her way through the ranks of the company with the idea of making a good amount of money for her family yearly.
Although Akuji remained naturally reclusive and somewhat distant from his classmates, Akina slowly grew less aloof again. Gradually, she began opening up a little, but she still remains quiet, unlike the cheery girl she used to be in the past, before the accident. While she does keep a small inner circle of friends at school, she doesn't go out of her way to make friends -- acquaintances make up the majority of the people she knows.
Personality: Prior to the accident, Akina was a cheery, outgoing girl who didn't mind mingling with random individuals. After said accident, however, her personality underwent a significant change -- although, for better or worse, it is not entirely clear.
For the most part, Akina is a rather quiet girl. She is not afraid of letting others take over the spotlight, for she does not mind being in the back, quietly disappearing into the background. Naturally, she shies away from attention, both positive and negative, with the hopes of keeping to herself. Basically, she opts to be the "wallflower," always there, but not quite noticeable. She has grown rather used to disappearing into the background without much trouble, which makes it easy for her to remain unnoticed. Around strangers, she remains quiet and reclusive, only chipping in with the occasional thoughtful comment before going completely silent again. Of course, she always listens, but she doesn't always speak.
On another note, Akina is very observant. Initially, back in her younger years, she wasn't particularly good at spotting things, but now, she easily notices changes and makes mental notes on the things she observes. She's perfectly content with taking on the role of the observer, so it's not uncommon for her to be extremely knowledgeable about others while others know nearly nothing about her. She keeps herself guarded, namely due to the point that she is secretive and it's hard to gain her trust, so she normally doesn't disclose information about herself to anyone other than extremely close friends. However, when she does trust someone, it is likely that she may end up being a friend for life.
Closer friends and observant acquaintances may notice Akina's inclination toward being a bit on the quirky side -- or rather, just being incredibly quirky. She is easily bored; thus, she often goes out of her way to amuse herself, whether it's by making up strange games or daydreaming, and she has an astounding number of strange habits as well. She's the girl in class who's constantly staring out of the window and not paying attention, which is hard to believe, given her high marks; her intelligence comes naturally, making her a fairly smart and logical person, which many find unfair, since she doesn't pay attention much. However, she does take time to study at home, which makes up for her lack of attention during class...slightly.
Around friends, Akina is very sweet-tempered and almost motherly at times, and she almost completely opens up, becoming seemingly an entirely different person. Her demeanor gains a less quiet, more cheery quality, and she acts very playful and open. She looks after others -- a trait that was probably born when she began looking after Akuji at home, after the accident -- and pays attention often. She's the girl that her friends know will lend a shoulder to cry on or an ear to listen and won't pry. There are, however, those times when she can perform a 180 and become completely childish and childlike, belying her motherly side. While she can become depressed when things take a more, well, depressing turn, she is never sad for long, since she normally cheers herself up or finds something to be happy about. Because of the accident, she is more thoughtful and careful about the things she says or does, and values many things, particularly people. Since such is the case, it's exceedingly difficult for Akina to let go of friends when they finally must leave. She is the kind of person who would hold onto something from her childhood, just because she can't bring herself to throw it out.
Although compassionate and considerate, she can be very blunt sometimes and painfully honest, especially to acquaintances. Akina isn't afraid of expressing her opinion. On another random note, she also seems to enjoy surprising people, and isn't afraid of cursing violently, something that utterly belies her feminine and gentle appearance. In some aspects, she also has a darker side to herself, born because of, again, the accident that involved her father. She harbors a certain degree of hatred that she chooses to stifle to the best of her ability, and Akina is horrible susceptible to jealousy and envy, for instance, but normally has enough self-control to keep herself under control. Nonetheless, she can be very spiteful at times when wronged, to the point of holding unreasonable grudges. Akina loves the concept of revenge, and the way she is, she can be somewhat manipulative and cunning sometimes, which makes it easy for her to hurt people she hates. When it comes to remorse, it's either hit or miss -- sometimes she'll feel guilty, but other times, she won't feel bad at all. The latter usually applies when the person she hurts in question is someone she truly hates.
As means of channeling her more negative emotions and venting, she took up singing and playing instruments, but the habit grew on her, so she now practices often with dedication out of love for music. While her voice is soothing and sweet (she would fall under the soprano category if she was in a choir), as well as arguably very pretty, she hates singing in front of others. With instruments, it is the same; if one gives her a violin or a piano (but only either of the two, since she proves somewhat inept at other instruments), she can and will create beautiful music only when she thinks she's finally alone. It comes from a great deal of practice and dedication, as well as potential -- she has a way of pouring emotion into her playing. Even if she plays the same exact song multiple times, each time will sound different.
Her more tomboyish side (which is still there, albeit less prevalent in comparison to her more dominant feminine nature) enjoys sports. The only sports she's decent at are, however, tennis, swimming, and ice skating -- primarily the first one. She plays on the girl's varsity tennis team in spite of her automatic dislike for attention, but otherwise, does not participate in any other noteworthy sports team at school and isn't very active in school clubs.
Sample Roleplay
"Mou...that isn't another deck, is it, Kuji-chan?"
"...It is. I'm sorry. I couldn't resist."
The elder Suzuki sibling peered down at her younger brother as the boy held up a box, his expression a mixture of guilt and excitement. Her eyes traced along the detailed design along the front of the box for some time, mesmerized by the high-quality, intricate details. After several moments passed, she shook her head, chuckling softly, before reaching to ruffle her brother's hair. "Y'know, you shouldn't use your allowance on things like this all of the time," she chided, jokingly making a stern face at her brother. The young boy broke into a smile, and scratched his head almost sheepishly, but otherwise looked just as composed as usual, which was somewhat scary, given his young age and the amount of maturity he possessed. Even during the time of the accident, he hadn't badgered their mother or her about their father, instead opting to remain quiet. Sometimes, Akina was firmly of the conviction that her little brother was a saint in comparison to all the other little brothers people had out there.
"But they're always pretty, and I can't help but like freaking people out by predicting their futures or something, even if it isn't necessarily true." Akina could have sworn she saw a proverbial halo hovering above her brother's head and a devil's tail swishing to and fro. Sometimes, her brother acted so innocent, even though she had to believe that some part of him was sadistic.
Bah. Her brother was so strange, sometimes. Then again, she wasn't one to talk, being rather quirky herself.
"Huuh... Well, don't keep buying so many. You should save up for video games. Then I can leech off of you." She grinned, swatting her brother's hair. Her obsession with video games was legend in the Suzuki household, and with good reason. She had a whole hoard of those things in the basement.
Besides. They were too awesome to pass. Honestly. Who could resist the temptation of video games?
"Video games? Pfffffft. Aki-nee-san, they're pointless. Just digital...things of...monsters and...things...on a screen. And the pointless hammering of buttons. You can't deny that tarot cards are way awesomer," Akuji insisted, crossing his arms and huffing childishly. This must have been the only testament to his true age of ten so far in the past hour.
"You lie. I can too."
"Cannot."
"Can too."
"Cannot."
"Can too!"
And thus, their conversation dissolved into good 'ol heart-to-heart sibling banter. There went the idea of intelligent discussion.
